An Alternative to Traditional Medicine

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine that involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points in the body. By stimulating these points, several effects are thought to occur:

  • release of endorphins for pain relief
  • unblock energy flow
  • resolve stagnation of Qi or blood
  • alterations in neurotransmitters and hormones
  • modifications in the immune system
  • local, distal and systemic effects

Disease is looked at as an imbalance in the body and a disturbance of energy flow. The goal of acupuncture is to restore that balance and allow energy to properly flow through the body, stimulate healing and promote relaxation.

Common conditions treated with acupuncture

  • Musculoskeletal problems – osteoarthritis, IVDD (intervertebral disk disease), myofascial disease
  • Neurologic conditions involving paresis/paralysis
  • Internal medicine conditions – GI disorders, kidney disease
  • Respiratory diseases – asthma
  • Skin problems
  • Reproductive issues like infertility
  • Overall wellness and preventative treatments

Acupuncture is an excellent therapy to use in conjunction with conventional medicine and to try for those pets not responding to these typically successful treatments.
