Because we are board-certified in internal medicine, we also have additional training in neurology and can evaluate patients for brain disorders. We pursue tests that are reasonable and appropriate and can do spinal taps and CT scans for both cats and dogs.
- Seizures—the most common neurological disorder among our four-legged friends
- Strokes—affects mostly older pets, and can be caused by risk factors such as hypertension, cardiac disease and kidney disease
- Intervertebral Disk Disease—a degenerative condition that affects mostly dogs, and can be managed with surgery, rest and rehabilitation
- Brain and Spine Tumors, many of which are benign and can be treated successfully
Often, we make a determination as to whether cancer cells are present, and will meet with you to discuss the course of the disease, additional recommended diagnostics, treatment options, side effects and the ultimate prognosis. You can expect we’ll balance your pet’s needs with the pet’s overall quality of life, and give you the information you need as you choose the best course of action.
